Working While Black:

Causing Good Trouble 4 Justice & Change

Speaking out shouldn’t cost you your career.
Working While Black is where truth meets action—exposing systemic harm, reclaiming power, and building community.*

Why Working While Black ExistsWorking While Black began as a personal story—but it quickly became clear that what I experienced wasn’t unique. The blatant disregard shown by managers and administrators wasn’t just a failure of leadership—it revealed a larger pattern. Across industries and institutions, Black professionals are being overburdened, disrespected, and retaliated against for telling the truth. These aren’t isolated incidents—they’re systemic conditions.I speak from the lived experience of a Black woman, and I center that truth here. But I also know this is bigger than me. I do not condone unethical governance or institutional harm in any form—regardless of race, color, creed, or nationality. This platform is about integrity, equity, and accountability for all.Despite the passage of SB 497, the Equal Pay and Anti-Retaliation Act signed into California law on October 8, 2023, the very agencies tasked with enforcing it have failed to uphold even the most basic protections. When oversight bodies ignore the law, retaliation becomes routine—and justice becomes performative. That’s why this platform was born. Working While Black exists out of necessity—to expose the patterns, protect the people, and shift the system. Whether you’ve experienced workplace injustice firsthand, or you’re standing in solidarity with those of us who have, you are welcome here.
All voices are needed. All truths matter. And together, we’re causing good trouble for lasting change.
